In the pursuit of creating a brighter future for young minds, our company embarked on a transformative journey through the Future of Manufacturing (FOM) Bursary Programme 2022. This pioneering initiative aimed to equip Grade 12 learners from Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) surrounding areas with the tools and support needed to excel academically and personally. Let's delve into the programme's key elements and the remarkable impact it made during its implementation.
The FOM Bursary Programme 2022 commenced by recruiting approximately 150 Grade 12 learners, from whom TSAM selected 100 participants. Each learner received a mobile smart device loaded with an AI-enabled math and science app, providing access to over 3000 exercises and videos per grade. The app also facilitated digital connections with tutors, ensuring learners received prompt clarification of any doubts.
To supplement the app's learning, the programme hosted six in-person math and science workshops on Saturdays, fostering hands-on learning experiences. Additionally, learners had the opportunity to undergo psychometric assessments during the selection process, ensuring TSAM received suitable candidates for the future TMA. It is not just about training for the sake of training, but training strategically for future employment!
Toyota South Africa Motors sponsored 100 learners in Grade 12 from the greater Durban area in 2022. The results of the FOM Bursary Programme 2022 spoke volumes about its impact. In science, 78% of learners achieved an average improvement of 10%, while in mathematics, 64% of learners saw an average improvement of 9%. The programme's weekly mentorship sessions via Zoom and daily reinforcing videos on essential life topics, such as communication, values, and courage, played a pivotal role in nurturing holistic development.
Monthly life coaching sessions tackled crucial subjects like purpose versus passion, decision-making, and overcoming procrastination. These sessions empowered learners with valuable life skills and enhanced their employability, setting them up for success in various aspects of life.
The FOM Bursary Programme 2022 opened doors for 35 learners to join the Toyota Manufacturing Academy (TMA), while ten fortunate individuals received university bursaries in data sciences and mechatronic engineering. Their achievements stand as a testament to the programme's ability to unlock potential and pave the way for a brighter future.
An AI-powered live dashboard in the math and science app continuously tracked learner progress and results. The app and monitoring attendance at mentoring sessions and video engagements provided tangible data on the programme's impact.
Feedback from learners and school principals highlighted the life-changing impact of the programme. Learners spoke of newfound confidence and emotional balance, while principals commended the program's positive effect on academic performance and learner attitudes.
The success of the FOM Bursary Programme 2022 was further amplified by a robust partnership with TSAM. Regular steerco meetings facilitated transparent communication, fostering positive progress. Principal involvement fostered strong relationships with schools, ensuring the programme's seamless execution.
The FOM Bursary Programme 2022 stands tall as a beacon of hope, illuminating the paths of ambitious young minds. Its resounding success in nurturing academic excellence and empowering personal growth is a testament to the power of innovative initiatives and collaborative efforts. As we move forward, let us continue to invest in the potential of our youth, for they are the architects of a brighter and more promising future for us all.
