Umlazi, South Africa – Inqubeko, a leader in talent strategy and community upliftment, celebrated the successful conclusion of the Aspire Leadership Programme (ALP) this past weekend. The programme, a flagship initiative under Inqubeko's High School Leadership Development Programme, empowers Grade 11 learners in Umlazi with skills in mathematics, science, leadership, and life coaching. With 44 learners participating from various schools in the area, this initiative has been a transformative journey of growth, resilience, and teamwork.
The closing ceremony, held at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, marked a fitting finale to months of hard work and dedication. Under the shade on a sunny and celebratory day, learners gathered after completing their final physical exercise class. Certificates of completion were awarded to all participants, with five exceptional learners receiving special recognition and prizes for their outstanding performance. The day concluded with a delightful lunch, leaving everyone with a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie.
Speaking at the event, Dithopi Mailula, Inqubeko Project Manager of the Aspire Leadership Programme, expressed gratitude to the learners for their dedication and highlighted the programme’s transformative impact. “This programme is about more than just academic success; it’s about building leaders who can make a meaningful difference in their communities. Watching these learners grow into confident, capable individuals has been an inspiring journey,” he remarked.
The impact of ALP is reflected in the learners’ achievements. The learner with the highest improvement in mathematics recorded an impressive 28% increase in marks, while another achieved a remarkable 35% improvement in science. These results underscore the transformative power of a holistic approach to education.
One of the learners shared their experience: “This programme has changed how I see myself and my future. The mentorship and coaching have given me confidence, and the focus on maths and science has made me believe I can achieve anything I set my mind to.”
Launched earlier this year, ALP integrates mentorship, life coaching, and leadership development with a strong emphasis on academic excellence in maths and science. This comprehensive curriculum aims to equip learners with the skills and resilience needed to succeed in higher education and beyond. It also aligns with industry demands, preparing youth for future opportunities in fields such as mining, engineering, and technical industries.
ALP also provides companies with an opportunity to align their investments with Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) spend requirements, ensuring that their contributions have a meaningful and measurable impact.
